Adamson's Wall Shuts Down UST's Attack in V-League Sweep

On Sunday, Sept. 20, Adamson University slammed the door on the University of Santo Tomas (UST). The Lady Falcons swept the Golden Tigresses, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, to clinch a semifinals berth in the 2026 V-League Collegiate Challenge.

The defending champions needed only an hour and 28 minutes to finish the job at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City. The win lifted them to 5-1, tied for the top spot with the Arellano University Lady Chiefs, the only team to beat them so far.

Adamson vs. UST: Joy Aseo Anchors the Wall at the Net

Adamson leaned on its work at the net. Joy Aseo read UST’s offense to perfection and denied Em Banagua and Ashley Knop in the third set.

That defensive wall rattled the Golden Tigresses. UST began to second-guess its attacks, and the errors followed. The Lady Falcons capitalized and stretched their lead to double digits.

Aseo finished with 19 points after coming off the bench in the opening set. She scored 16 points on attacks and three on kill blocks, including two in the final frame.

Fellow wingers Lhouriz Tuddao and Frances Modri added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Fhei Sagaysay tallied 14 excellent sets and two points.

Head coach JP Yude was pleased with how the Lady Falcons answered their loss to Arellano. The younger players, Yude said, were especially eager.

“We were eager talaga, especially yung mga bata, because of that loss (to Arellano). Siyempre, kung ano yung babaunin namin sa next games. I’m very happy and grateful on how my players responded properly sa training and sa game today,” Yude said.

UST Faces Potential Do-or-Die vs. Benilde as Adamson Eyes San Beda

Angge Poyos was the only UST player to finish in double figures, with 13 points. Reg Jurado was held to eight points.

UST (3-3) now turns to a potential do-or-die game against De La Salle College of Saint Benilde (2-4) on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. The winner could take the final semifinals spot.

Adamson will wrap up its preliminary-round campaign against San Beda University (3-3) on Sunday, Sept. 27, at noon. The Lady Falcons will head into that game with their semifinals spot already secured.
