The Ho Chi Minh City volleyball club snapped a two-match losing streak with a stunning victory over the defending champion PLDT High Speed Hitters. Before a stunned crowd at the Araneta Coliseum, the Vietnamese squad pulled off a 28-26, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16 upset in the PVL Invitational.

The victory dramatically reshaped the tournament standings and revived Ho Chi Minh’s championship hopes. It also proved that disciplined teamwork can overcome raw offensive firepower when tournament survival is on the line.

Stifling Net Defense Fuels Major PVL Upset

A relentless blocking scheme powered the Vietnamese club throughout the hard-fought, four-set showdown. Thi My Xuyen Le and Thi Bich Diep Ho spearheaded the frontcourt wall, combining for nine of the team’s 10 total blocks.

PLDT star Kim Dy erupted for a game-high 25 points, while Savi Davison contributed 16 points in the loss. However, Ho Chi Minh repeatedly neutralized their crucial attacks during pivotal fourth-set rallies.

Balanced Attack and Stellar Playmaking Keep Finals Hopes Alive

Captain Thi Kim Thanh Dang led four Ho Chi Minh players in double figures with a team-high 19 points. Ho added 18 points, while Le and Thi Nhung Dao chipped in 14 points apiece to maintain offensive balance.
