Nxled needed just one day to erase the sting of a tough four-set loss. The Chameleons stormed back with a commanding 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 sweep of defending champion PLDT on Tuesday, September 1, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, evening their PVL Invitational record at 1-1.

The victory was more than a bounce-back win. It was a statement that Nxled can absorb a gut-punch loss to Creamline one night and deliver a complete performance the very next — a trait that could matter enormously in a nine-day tournament with almost no room to recover.

Phillips, De Guzman Lead Nxled’s Balanced Attack

Middle blocker MJ Phillips set the tone from the service line, finishing with a match-high 13 points built on eight kills and four aces. Two of those aces came in dramatic fashion, clipping the tape before dying in open space on PLDT’s side of the net.

“After yesterday’s game, we put in a lot of work. We just wanted to showcase to everyone how much we’ve put in over the last couple of weeks, and thankfully, it showed out here today,” Phillips said after being named the match’s best player.

She wasn’t alone in the turnaround. Myla Pablo followed her seven-point outing against Creamline with 12 points and three blocks, while Lyann De Guzman came off the bench to explode for 10 points and nine digs after being held scoreless just a day earlier.

Jonah Escamilla, who had erupted for 20 points in Monday’s loss, settled into a quieter but steady role with nine points and 15 receptions, anchoring Nxled’s back row throughout the 90-minute contest.

Nxled’s Discipline Overwhelms PLDT’s Firepower

PLDT actually out-hit Nxled on paper, attacking for 44 points to the Chameleons’ 41, powered largely by Savi Davison’s game-high 20-point outburst. But raw firepower wasn’t enough to overcome Nxled’s discipline on the other side of the ball.

The Chameleons controlled the net with seven blocks compared to PLDT’s four and turned up the pressure on serve, forcing the High Speed Hitters into repeated errors. Nxled finished with six aces to PLDT’s lone ace, exposing cracks in the defending champions’ first-ball reception all night.

That composure showed up most clearly in the free-point column. Nxled converted 21 points off PLDT’s errors while committing just 12 of its own, a dramatic improvement from the 21 unforced errors that had doomed the Chameleons against Creamline just a day before.

Head coach Ettore Guidetti credited the quick turnaround to sharper execution across the board rather than any single fix. His team’s ability to identify problems and adjust overnight — in serving, defense and rotations — turned a potential letdown into one of the tournament’s best performances so far.

Nxled will look to keep the momentum going Thursday against EST Cola, while PLDT regroups for a matchup against Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam. Both teams now sit at 1-1, with the PVL Invitational Conference proving wide open just days into the race.
