Mapua University officially begins its campaign in the Philippine Youth Basketball Championship Season 2 presented by Growee as the Under-18 division resumes action on Sunday at the Villar Coliseum. The Red Robins will use the tournament as early preparation for their NCAA Season 102 buildup later this year.
Tip-off is scheduled at 5:00 p.m., with Mapua facing the 1118 Autospa-Dragons, who are also searching for their first win in the competition. The matchup marks an important early test for both programs as they look to establish rhythm in the youth basketball circuit.

Early season preparation focus
Mapua head coach John Ross Dela Cruz emphasized that the PYBC provides a valuable competitive environment similar to the NCAA. He noted that facing structured and well-organized teams helps the Red Robins prepare for their upcoming collegiate campaign.
The coaching staff views the tournament as a key development stage for players, allowing them to gain experience in high-pressure situations while refining team systems. The program is expected to rely on a mix of young talent and system discipline as the season progresses.
The PYBC Season 2 is backed by multiple sponsors supporting youth basketball development in the country, reinforcing its role as a platform for emerging athletes.
