Yubin Jang positioned himself firmly in contention at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open after posting a steady two-under-par 69 in the second round at Namseoul Country Club. His performance moved him into a share of the halfway lead as the leaderboard tightened heading into the weekend.
The standings remained tightly packed, with multiple players separated by only a handful of shots. Jang joined compatriots Mingyu Cho, Sanghun Shin, and Taehee Lee at six under par, creating a crowded race for the lead.

Tight leaderboard builds pressure at halfway stage
A large chasing pack kept the pressure on the leaders, with eight players sitting at five under. New Zealand’s Nick Voke led that group after a composed 66, while Korea’s Minkyu Kim and Seonghyeon Kim also stayed firmly in contention.
Jang’s form has been influenced by his experience on the LIV Golf circuit, where he competed last season before returning to Asian Tour events. He credited that exposure to different playing conditions for helping him adjust more efficiently to the windy challenge at Namseoul.
He emphasized that his focus has shifted toward consistency and control rather than overly aggressive shot-making, especially in difficult weather conditions. That approach has helped him remain steady through two rounds of tight competition.
Experience shapes Jang’s weekend push
Jang’s rise in Korean golf includes a strong 2024 campaign where he topped the Order of Merit and earned Player of the Year honors. That breakthrough season helped him earn international opportunities and elevated his profile on larger stages.
He has also come close at this event before, finishing tied fourth in 2024 and equal eighth as an amateur in 2023. Those near-misses remain a motivating factor as he chases his first Maekyung Open title.
Several contenders remain within reach, including Julien Sale and Nick Voke, who both delivered strong second-round performances. Sale’s aggressive play included two eagles, while Voke credited his ball striking and composure in tough wind conditions.
