Rain or Shine bounced back strongly from its first loss of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, defeating Magnolia, 91-82, in a physical matchup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Saturday, April 25. The Elasto Painters erased an early double-digit deficit and finished with a strong second-half push to stay at the top of the standings at 8-1.
Magnolia came out sharp and built a lead of as many as 12 points in the first half, controlling the pace early with aggressive offense. Rain or Shine, however, slowly settled into its rhythm and tightened its defensive pressure as the game progressed.

Mamuyac powers second-half turnaround
Gian Mamuyac delivered the biggest impact of the night, scoring 18 of his 25 points after halftime while setting the tone defensively for Rain or Shine. His activity on defense led to transition opportunities that shifted momentum firmly in favor of the Elasto Painters.
Mamuyac’s defensive work included key steals, disrupted passing lanes, and timely stops that fueled the team’s fast break offense. His energy helped Rain or Shine flip the game in a 53-41 second-half surge.
Jaylen Johnson matched Mamuyac’s output with 25 points and 14 rebounds, providing consistent interior production throughout the contest. Jhonard Clarito added 18 points, while Adrian Nocum contributed all eight of his points in the fourth quarter to help close out the win.
Rain or Shine outlasts Magnolia in physical finish
Magnolia struggled to maintain its early efficiency as Rain or Shine increased defensive pressure and controlled the tempo in the second half. The Hotshots were unable to sustain their scoring runs as the Elasto Painters locked in on both ends.
Coach Yeng Guiao credited Mamuyac’s pace-setting performance, noting that the team’s energy and execution improved significantly after a slow start. Rain or Shine’s ability to push the tempo became the key difference down the stretch.
The game turned into a physical battle late in the fourth quarter, with both teams exchanging intensity in a tight finish. Rain or Shine, however, stayed composed and executed better in the closing minutes to secure the victory.
Magnolia dropped to 4-5 after the loss, slipping further in the playoff race alongside San Miguel Beer, while Converge and Terrafirma continue to chase.
