Ramirez extends dominance with third straight gold

Annie Ramirez leaned on experience and discipline to edge Emily Thomas in a tightly contested final. The match remained close throughout, with both athletes displaying technical precision before Ramirez secured the winning advantage.

The victory marked Ramirez’s third consecutive gold medal in the Asian Beach Games, reinforcing her status as one of the country’s most reliable medal contributors. Her consistency on the international stage continues to set the benchmark for Philippine jiu-jitsu.

Prior to the final, Ramirez battled through a demanding semifinal against Mongolia’s Shurentsetseg Ehnkhmunkh. She controlled the pace over five minutes and secured a 5-2 decision to book her place in the championship round.

Thomas, meanwhile, earned her spot in the final after a gritty 4-2 win over UAE’s Shamsa Alameri. The tightly fought contest tested her resilience, but she delivered when it mattered to complete the all-Filipino pairing.

Team Philippines adds to medal haul

The gold medal by Annie Ramirez added to a strong day for Team Philippines, which also celebrated Leonard Grospe’s victory in the high jump. The delegation continued to build momentum across multiple events in the competition.

Despite earlier challenges in other divisions, the success of Ramirez and Thomas provided a major boost for the Philippine contingent. Their performances showcased composure under pressure and the ability to deliver in crucial moments.

Ramirez acknowledged the significance of securing the division alongside Thomas, emphasizing how the all-Filipino final eased the pressure heading into the decisive match. The result not only guaranteed gold for the country but also demonstrated the continued rise of Filipino athletes in the sport.
