Rain or Shine survived a late Converge rally to secure a 120-111 victory in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The win added another entry to the latest PBA results as Rain or Shine continued its strong start in the elimination round.

The Elasto Painters controlled most of the contest through their pace and perimeter shooting, building a lead that reached as high as 23 points in the fourth quarter. Despite the cushion, Converge refused to go away and slowly chipped into the deficit down the stretch.

The game also carried strong emotional weight for the franchise as Gabe Norwood’s No. 5 jersey was retired during a halftime ceremony. The tribute became one of the defining moments of the night and added significance to the team’s performance.

Rain or Shine knocked down multiple three-pointers throughout the game to maintain control and stretch its advantage at key moments. Their offensive balance allowed them to withstand pressure even when Converge began its late surge.

Converge eventually cut the lead to just two points after a strong fourth-quarter push, putting heavy pressure on Rain or Shine’s closing execution. However, the Elasto Painters responded with timely baskets to regain control and finish the game.

Late execution secures PBA results win

Coach Yeng Guiao acknowledged that the team continues to struggle with closing games despite the win reflected in the PBA results. He pointed out that lapses in focus have repeatedly allowed opponents back into games.

“It’s always a mental collapse. We relax when we feel we have a good lead,” Guiao said after the game.

Jaylen Johnson delivered the decisive plays in the final stretch, including a clutch three-pointer and strong finishes at the rim. He finished with 35 points and 21 rebounds, leading Rain or Shine in a key performance across the PBA results.

Mamuyac sparks third-quarter surge

Gian Mamuyac also played a crucial role with 21 points, including 12 during a third-quarter run where Rain or Shine outscored Converge 34-21. That surge helped establish the separation that ultimately proved decisive.

Converge dropped to 1-5 after suffering its fifth straight loss despite strong scoring efforts from multiple players. Alec Stockton led the team with 17 points, while several others added balanced production in the defeat.
