NLEX showcased depth and discipline in a commanding 120-102 victory over Phoenix Super LPG on Sunday, April 5, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Robert Bolick still delivered his usual brilliance with 22 points and 14 assists, but this time, the spotlight was shared across the roster.
Cady Lalanne led the scoring charge with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin Alas added 18 points in a crucial late-game surge. Schonny Winston chipped in 16 and Tony Semerad contributed 15, giving the Road Warriors the firepower needed to control the contest from the opening period.

With the win, NLEX improved to a 4-1 record, securing the second spot in the standings behind unbeaten Rain or Shine. The Road Warriors’ ability to spread the scoring load allowed them to sustain momentum even when Phoenix threatened to close the gap.
Balanced scoring fuels NLEX surge
NLEX established control early, building a 33-17 lead in the first quarter behind Winston’s offensive burst and aggressive execution. The Road Warriors maintained their composure as Phoenix made multiple runs, with different players stepping up at key moments to preserve the lead.
Tony Semerad delivered one of the biggest sequences of the game when Phoenix trimmed the deficit to four points, knocking down three straight triples to ignite an 11-0 run. His timely shooting gave NLEX breathing room and shifted the momentum firmly back in their favor.
Head coach Jong Uichico emphasized the importance of having multiple contributors, noting that five players finishing in double figures significantly increases the team’s chances of winning. He added that balanced scoring gives NLEX flexibility, especially when no single player is carrying the entire offensive load.
Defense anchors Road Warriors’ win
Beyond the offense, NLEX’s defensive effort played a crucial role in limiting Phoenix’s primary weapons throughout the game. Import James Dickey III was held to just 13 points, far below his usual output, while Ricci Rivero was contained to 20 points after a previous high-scoring performance.
Uichico acknowledged Rivero’s scoring ability but highlighted that keeping Dickey in check was a major factor in securing the victory. He stressed that controlling the import’s production made it harder for Phoenix to sustain offensive pressure despite reaching 102 points.
Kevin Alas took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 of his 18 points to ensure a strong finish for NLEX. His performance was highlighted by a rare five-point play that extended the lead to a comfortable margin and effectively sealed the outcome.
Bolick and Lalanne combined late to stretch the advantage to as much as 115-94, putting the game out of reach. The Road Warriors’ collective effort ultimately proved too much for the Fuel Masters as NLEX continued its strong run in the conference.
