Brooke Van Sickle’s outstanding performance for Petro Gazz earned her PVL Press Corps Player of the Week honors, highlighting her as the driving force behind the Angels’ late surge in the Reinforced Conference.
Van Sickle tallied a triple-double of 27 points, 15 digs, and 14 receptions in a crucial 25-21, 27-25, 23-25, 25-21 win over PLDT, helping Petro Gazz climb from eighth to fifth place and close out the preliminary round Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Van Sickle’s leadership fuels Angels’ momentum
The 27-year-old said the team’s cohesion has improved steadily, and her recognition reflects not only individual effort but also Petro Gazz’s growing rhythm heading into the playoffs.
“We’re definitely moving more cohesive as the games go on,” Van Sickle said. “I’m proud of everyone stepping up and playing gritty defense. It’s just a matter of working at practice and getting the reps in. Right now, this team gels better than ever.”
Her consistent production through the conference saw her rank eighth in digs, ninth in spiking, and tenth in scoring by the preliminaries, proving she’s peaking at the perfect time.
Quarterfinal test awaits against Creamline
Looking ahead, Petro Gazz faces Creamline in a knockout match Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Van Sickle stressed the importance of preparation and focus to overcome last year’s quarterfinal disappointment against the Cool Smashers.
“They’re a really tough team. We need to go back, watch film, make adjustments, and be on our A-game,” Van Sickle said. “We’re ready to give it our all.”
The winner will advance to Thursday’s semifinals, keeping the Angels’ championship hopes alive.
