Terrafirma delivered its biggest performance in months with a gritty 97-91 upset of NLEX on Sunday, October 12, finally snapping an 11-game losing streak in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Rookie John Bravo rose to the moment with 18 points and eight rebounds, powering a fearless Dyip squad that overcame a shaky opening before showing maturity to withstand NLEX’s furious late rally. The win marked Terrafirma’s first since last season’s Philippine Cup, ending a drought that spanned nearly a full conference.
Coach Ronald Tubid praised his young group for proving they could win even without size. “The kids are excited. They know they can do it. As long as we compete, we have a chance,” Tubid said. “We’re still a work in progress. This team was fast-tracked. Preparation was short, but we stick to our strengths and remind the players to keep competing.”
Bravo, Ahanmisi close the door on NLEX comeback
NLEX sliced a 16-point deficit down to just two late in the fourth quarter, but Bravo and Jerrick Ahanmisi delivered clutch baskets to keep the Dyip ahead. Ahanmisi capped his 14-point night with a crucial layup, before Bravo drained two free throws with 12 seconds left to secure the win.

The victory came just two days after a humbling 107-87 loss to Blackwater, highlighting the team’s quick turnaround and resilience. Terrafirma’s win also spoiled NLEX’s momentum following its upset of San Miguel Beer earlier in the week.
Supporting cast fuels breakthrough win
The Dyip’s supporting crew stepped up in a big way. Paolo Hernandez filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Didat Hanapi added 13, while Sangalang contributed 11 despite foul trouble. Mark Nonoy didn’t score heavily but dished out 13 assists and grabbed seven boards.
NLEX leaned on John Bahio’s 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Anthony Semerad also posted 12 and 11. Xyrus Torres and Jonnel Policarpio chipped in late, but without Robert Bolick for the second straight game, the Road Warriors fell short of completing their comeback.
The result marked a statement performance for a young Terrafirma side seeking to carve out a new identity in the PBA Philippine Cup.
