Maya Joint produced one of the most dramatic comebacks of the 2025 season to capture the Lexus Eastbourne Open title on Saturday, June 28, outlasting the Philippines’ Alexandra Eala in a gripping final. The 19-year-old Australian saved four championship points en route to a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(10) victory in a match that lasted 2 hours and 26 minutes.

Eala, 20, had entered the tournament as a qualifier but pushed Joint to the absolute limit in a final that featured heavy hitting, nerves of steel, and countless momentum shifts. It marked the youngest combined-age final at Eastbourne since 1981 and delivered on the promise of two of the WTA Tour’s rising stars.

Dual Surface Success and Rankings Leap

The title is Joint’s second WTA singles title of the year following her clay triumph in Rabat. By winning on grass at Eastbourne, she showcased her adaptability and growing stature in the women’s game. The win is expected to catapult her into the Top 50 of the PIF WTA Rankings for the first time when the new list is released on Monday.

Despite Eala’s heartbreaking loss, the Filipina sensation can take pride in a breakthrough run that saw her defeat several seeded players en route to the final. Her performance solidifies her position as one of Asia’s most promising tennis talents and hints at bigger results on the horizon.

For Joint, the day isn’t over yet. She will return to the court to contest the Eastbourne doubles final with veteran Hsieh Su-wei. The pair will face Marie Bouzkova and Anna Danilina in what could be a double-title day for the Australian teen.
