Blackwater finally broke its losing streak behind the late-game heroics of Christian David and Sedrick Barefield, pulling away from Terrafirma for a 97-82 win in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday, June 8.

The Bossing snapped a six-game slide and moved to 2-8 in the standings, securing a much-needed win in their penultimate game of the conference. David and Barefield delivered when it mattered most—David dropping eight of his 19 points in the fourth and Barefield adding seven of his 12 in the same period to shut down a persistent Terrafirma rally.

Escoto, Guinto, Andrade also deliver

Richard Escoto was instrumental in the second quarter with 15 of his career-high 21 points to give Blackwater a 45-27 cushion before settling for a 52-45 lead at halftime. Bradwyn Guinto’s eight-point burst early in the third pushed the lead further, while BJ Andrade knocked down a back-breaking four-point play with 4:13 remaining to make it 95-77.

“It feels very good to win. It’s been a long conference for us,” said David, who also pulled down 12 rebounds. “Everybody contributed. Guys off the bench, especially Richard. It’s a team win.”

Head coach Jeffrey Cariaso credited the clutch plays of David and Barefield for holding off Terrafirma’s repeated comeback attempts. “Much respect to Terrafirma. They never stop fighting,” said Cariaso. “But Sedrick and CD were there to save us tonight.”

Terrafirma’s struggles continue

Terrafirma closed the season with its 10th straight loss after an opening day win. Mark Sangalang showed grit by finishing with a game-high 24 points despite a sore back. Stanley Pringle and Brent Paraiso each scored 12, while Terrence Romeo added 10 in his fourth appearance of the conference.

Blackwater dominated the boards 55-37, with Abu Tratter collecting seven rebounds and Barefield dishing out eight assists. The Bossing also had the edge from deep, sinking 11 triples to just three from Terrafirma.

With one game left against Phoenix, Blackwater aims to end its campaign on a positive note, while Terrafirma looks ahead to uncertain times amid rumors of a franchise sale.
