Alas Pilipinas proved its grit once again, overcoming a shaky start to defeat a resilient Indonesian squad in four gripping sets, 22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 28-26, at the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup on Sunday in Hanoi. The victory preserved the team’s unbeaten run, moving them to a 2-0 record in Pool B, tied with Kazakhstan.
The match showcased the depth and determination of Alas Pilipinas. Alyssa Solomon led the charge with 17 points, while Angel Canino and Bella Belen came off the bench to deliver key performances, also scoring 17 and 12 points respectively. Their energy was instrumental in reversing the early momentum Indonesia had built.
Alas Pilipinas, fresh from a win against Mongolia the day before, wasted no time analyzing their next opponent. The focus paid off as the Filipinas responded strongly after dropping the first set.
“Pinaghandaan po talaga namin ‘yung match,” said Belen. “Alam namin na strong team ang Indonesia at kahit galing sa bench, handa kami.”

Indonesia challenged Alas Pilipinas all the way, especially in the dramatic fourth set. After a quick attack by Fifi Sharma brought the Philippines to match point, Indonesia countered with an equalizer through Ersandrina Devega. An attack error from Canino even gave Indonesia a set point at 25-24.
But Alas Pilipinas dug deep, relying on composure and chemistry. Canino redeemed herself with a crucial kill, and newcomer Shaina Nitura stepped up to deliver the final blow, securing the win at 28-26. It was a powerful display of teamwork, as noted by Nitura.
“Grabe po ‘yung bench—very deep,” said Nitura. “Kahit sinong ipasok, lalaban. Teamwork at tiwala talaga ang nakita ko kanina.”
With two consecutive victories, Alas Pilipinas looks to continue its winning streak as it faces Iran next at 4:00 p.m. (Manila time) on Monday. The squad has shown so far that regardless of who starts, the entire team is ready to step up.
Alas Pilipinas remains the main storyline in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup, not just for their record, but for their spirit, resilience, and the depth that has made them a legitimate contender.
