Phoenix Super LPG gave its fans something to cheer for with a morale-boosting 118-107 victory over NorthPort in the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup at PhilSports Arena. Though already out of playoff contention, the Fuel Masters played with pride and purpose to break a four-game losing streak.
Head coach Jamike Jarin praised the team’s professionalism and highlighted that every remaining game matters, especially for improvement. But it was JC Cullar who truly inspired, suiting up and contributing despite mourning the recent death of his father abroad.
JC Cullar honors his father with grit
Cullar played 7 minutes and 24 seconds, finishing with 4 points and 4 assists in a game that became deeply personal. Jarin revealed he encouraged Cullar to fly out immediately, but the guard insisted on playing, saying his late father would have wanted him to.
The emotional victory boosted Phoenix to 3-7 as it eyes a strong finish against Blackwater on June 13. Jason Perkins led the scoring with 26 points and 8 rebounds, while Kai Ballungay added 17 points and 9 boards.
NorthPort’s struggles continue despite Abueva debut

Even with the addition of Calvin Abueva, who had 18 points and 7 rebounds in his first game with the Batang Pier, NorthPort couldn’t reverse its downward spiral. Joshua Munzon’s 32 points weren’t enough to avoid their eighth loss of the conference.
Now at 1-8, NorthPort will need a near-miracle to salvage what has been a frustrating season. Phoenix, on the other hand, looks to close out its campaign with back-to-back wins and a boost of momentum for the next conference.
