Adrian Nocum arrived at the PhilSports Arena with a mission to erase the memory of a subpar outing against TNT. The Rain or Shine guard delivered in a big way, dropping a career-best 30 points to steer the Elasto Painters to a 109-99 win over Phoenix Super LPG in the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup.
The 24-year-old shot 10-of-20 from the field and 9-of-13 from the stripe to spark Rain or Shine’s fifth win of the conference. His redemption arc came after a disappointing 3-of-12 showing in their previous 103-111 loss to the Tropang Giga.
Rain Or Shine Finds Momentum In Balanced Attack
Nocum’s brilliance was matched by strong support from teammates like Jhonard Clarito, who posted 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Caelan Tiongson and Leonard Santillan chipped in 14 and 12, respectively, as the Elasto Painters took control early and never looked back.
Head coach Yeng Guiao praised his squad’s ability to dictate tempo and maintain aggressive offense throughout the game. “We were able to attack, move the ball, and get to the foul line,” Guiao noted, citing their effective three-point shooting and relentless drives.
Despite coughing up 19 turnovers that led to Phoenix fastbreak points, Rain or Shine stayed composed and countered with tough defense. Their ability to slow down key Fuel Masters like Jason Perkins and Kai Ballungay proved decisive in securing the win.
Phoenix Fades As ROS Closes Strong
Phoenix tried to mount comebacks multiple times but failed to sustain momentum against Rain or Shine’s cohesive effort. With the loss, the Fuel Masters dropped to 2-6, falling further out of playoff contention.
Nocum sealed the deal with key baskets down the stretch, capping a memorable night for both himself and the team. “All I wanted was to bounce back,” he said, satisfied with his performance that helped them break their tie with TNT and climb in the standings.
As the race for the playoffs heats up, Rain or Shine now stands at 5-3, strengthening their case for a spot in the quarterfinals. For Nocum and company, the night was more than just a win—it was a statement of grit, growth, and redemption.
