The Giants of Africa Festival returns to Kigali from July 26 to August 2, 2025, uniting 320 youth athletes from 20 African countries for an electrifying week of basketball, education, culture, and entertainment. Founded by Toronto Raptors Vice-Chairman Masai Ujiri, the non-profit organization aims to inspire the continent’s youth through transformative experiences and world-class mentorship.
Over 20,000 spectators are expected to witness the celebration, which features top-tier basketball action alongside thrilling performances and thought-provoking forums. The week will begin with an inspiring Opening Show featuring Uncle Waffles, Sherrie Silver, and Kevin Kade and culminate in a Closing Concert with Afrobeats stars Kizz Daniel and Timaya.

Uniting 20 Nations, Empowering Africa’s Future
Youth from Senegal to Somalia will participate in daily skills training led by NBA, WNBA, and local coaches, culminating in a championship and all-star showcase. The initiative reflects Giants of Africa’s mission of using basketball as a vehicle for education, unity, and leadership development across borders.
Zaria Court, a landmark mixed-use development by Ujiri, will also officially open during the festival. This new hub in Kigali will blend sports, hospitality, and commerce to enhance the local ecosystem and create lasting economic impact.
Fashion, Forums, and Female Empowerment Spotlighted
The Threads of Africa Fashion Show will debut with collections from top designers: Hortense Mbea (Cameroon), Alia Baré (Niger), and Nyambo (Rwanda/South Africa). The event aims to amplify African creativity and identity through a dynamic cultural lens.
Additional highlights include the International Youth Day Forum, in partnership with Imbuto Foundation and ALX, convening over 2,000 youth for dialogue on leadership and innovation. A continent-wide Women’s Community Outreach Program will empower women and girls through workshops and mentorship.
