The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has announced a renewed four-year partnership with the SONAK Group, the official distributor of Molten basketballs in the Philippines, in a significant move to enhance support for youth and grassroots basketball programs throughout the country.
Under this new agreement, Molten will continue as the Official Ball for all SBP-organized events, competitions, and development initiatives. The partnership was formalized in a signing between SBP Executive Director Erika Dy and SONAK Group Marketing Director Ishina Buxani, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing basketball at the grassroots level.
As part of the deal, SONAK will provide basketballs and equipment for use in SBP-led programs including national tournaments, coaching education, referee training clinics, and talent identification initiatives. This ensures that players and trainers working at every level — from local leagues to potential national prospects — will have access to top-tier equipment from the same brand used in elite international competitions.
“The development of basketball at the grassroots level is crucial for the sport’s overall growth,” said SBP Executive Director Erika Dy. “Our partnership with SONAK will empower our youth with essential sports equipment and inspire the next generation of basketball athletes to confidently pursue their dreams.”

Dy also emphasized the importance of consistency in player development:
“Molten is a Global Partner of FIBA, and it’s important that our grassroots talents use the same equipment from their identification up to the elite level. Molten will be with us every step of the way.”
SONAK Group’s Marketing Director Ishina Buxani echoed the SBP’s enthusiasm, stating:
“We believe that basketball has the power to inspire the next generation of athletes. Through our partnership with the SBP, we are committed to shaping the future of basketball in the country. We are honored to be an SBP partner and excited to work together to create a lasting impact.”
This collaboration reflects a growing emphasis on long-term development pathways in Philippine basketball, with proper equipment and structured training programs forming the foundation for athletic growth. With the renewed support from SONAK and Molten, the SBP continues to expand its reach and deepen its impact on basketball communities nationwide.
