Cignal on the brink of another Spikers’ Turf Title as Game Two of finals approaches

The Cignal HD Spikers are on the verge of securing their ninth championship title in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, but they’re not taking their foot off the gas as Game 2 of the best-of-three finals series approaches. After a thrilling five-set victory over Criss Cross in Game 1, the Spikers are determined to close out the series with another win on Friday night, April 4, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Cignal’s vast championship experience proved essential in the opener, as they survived a gritty battle with Criss Cross. The match saw a back-and-forth contest with Criss Cross controlling the tempo in three sets before Cignal turned things around, winning 22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12. This victory gives Cignal a 1-0 series lead and puts them in prime position to claim the title.

In their quest to win a ninth Spikers’ Turf championship, Cignal will rely on the same formula that has worked for them in the past: experience, depth, and resilience. Coach Dexter Clamor praised the team’s ability to dig deep in Game 1, with standout performances from Jau Umandal, who led the team with 19 points, and reserve setter Cian Silang, who stepped in for Owa Retamar and delivered 23 excellent sets.

“Everyone stepped up, especially Umandal. That’s the Jau we’ve been looking for,” said Clamor. “It was really a collective effort from everyone. That’s probably what led us to victory.”

But Criss Cross is far from done. Despite their Game 1 loss, the King Crunchers boast a talented roster and a flawless 13-0 record going into the finals. Players like Jude Garcia, Nico Almendras, Marck Espejo, and Ish Polvorosa will be looking to bounce back and prove they have what it takes to force a Game 3.

With their deep roster, Criss Cross certainly has the firepower to challenge Cignal. However, they will need to find a way to maintain their intensity and composure in the latter stages of the match if they are to avoid falling behind 2-0 in the series.

As Game 2 of the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference Finals approaches, Cignal is focused on wrapping up the series and adding another trophy to their impressive collection. The HD Spikers’ championship pedigree gives them the edge, but Criss Cross is ready for the challenge.
