Defending champion Cignal is determined to maintain its momentum as it takes on Savouge, while Criss Cross looks to continue its dominant unbeaten run when it faces VNS-Laticrete in the resumption of the second round of the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Ynares Sports Arena on Wednesday, March 12.

The HD Spikers, coming off a much-needed victory over VNS-Laticrete, seek to solidify their standing with a strong performance against the unpredictable Spin Doctors in their 6 p.m. matchup. Meanwhile, Criss Cross aims to extend its perfect 6-0 record when it collides with the struggling Griffins at 3 p.m.

Cignal seeks consistency heading into crucial stretch

Cignal enters the match with a 5-1 slate, looking to stay within striking distance of unbeaten Criss Cross ahead of their highly anticipated rematch on Friday. The HD Spikers have been focusing on maintaining efficiency across all aspects of their game, knowing that consistency will be key to their title defense.

“This week will be tough as we face Savouge and Criss Cross again. Our mindset is simple – stay consistent in all aspects of the game,” said head coach Dexter Clamor. “We have to maintain our efficiency in serving, receiving, attacking, and blocking. Most importantly, we cannot lose focus.”

Cignal will rely on Steven Rotter, Wendel Miguel, and JP Bugaoan to step up offensively, especially with Jau Umandal still questionable due to a hyperextended knee. The HD Spikers will need to contain Savouge’s Shawie Caritativo, Mark Calado, and Madz Gampong, who have been instrumental in their team’s success this season.

Criss Cross looks to keep perfect record intact

The King Crunchers have been nearly unstoppable in the tournament, riding on the stellar performances of Jude Garcia, Jaron Requinton, and Nico Almendras. Criss Cross will be heavily favored against a VNS-Laticrete squad reeling from back-to-back straight-set defeats.

Setter Ish Polvorosa, who was recently named Player of the Week by the PVL Press Corps, will once again be a key factor in orchestrating Criss Cross’ fluid offensive attack.

Alpha Insurance, PGJC-Navy battle to end losing streaks

In the first match of the day at 1 p.m., Alpha Insurance and PGJC-Navy will try to snap their respective losing streaks. The Sealions, led by Jack Kalingking, John Ashley Jacob, and Peter Quiel, hope to put an end to their four-game skid, while the Protectors lean on Edward Camposano, Vince Nadera, and JJ Javelona as they chase only their second win of the tournament.

As the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference intensifies, every match becomes crucial in shaping the quarterfinal picture. With Cignal and Criss Cross both aiming for big wins, today’s matches could set the stage for an even more exciting stretch in the tournament.
