Savi Davison leads PLDT to quarterfinals with career-best performance

It’s no secret—Savi Davison is PLDT’s primary offensive weapon. The Filipino-Canadian star once again proved her dominance in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, powering the High Speed Hitters to the quarterfinals with an explosive performance.

Davison matched her career-best 34 points, leading PLDT past ZUS Coffee, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24, in their qualifying round clash last Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.

Her latest stellar outing set up a best-of-three quarterfinal series against Choco Mucho, a team that has yet to lose in 2025.

Raising the standard

“I think it was just a mentality shift from preliminaries to the playoff round,” said Davison. “Our coach told the team earlier that it’s a long road from here to the championship, so it’s best for us to set a standard. Hopefully, we move all the way up from here.”

Her leadership and scoring prowess earned her the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award, presented by Pilipinas Live, for the period of March 4 to March 6—her second recognition this conference.

Davison edged out Kim Fajardo, who played a crucial role in PLDT’s win after Angge Alcantara suffered an injury in the first set. She also outperformed Ivy Lacsina (Akari), Cess Robles (Chery Tiggo), and Vanie Gandler (Cignal) for the weekly honor.

Eyes on the championship

Since making her PVL debut in 2023, Davison has been on a mission: to lead PLDT to its first-ever title. Despite missing the Reinforced Conference due to a minor knee procedure, she remains focused on the ultimate goal.

“I want a championship. I want to be at the top at the end of the season,” she said. “I guess I’m really preparing for that, so hopefully, I’ll just keep performing until we get there.”

Challenging the unbeaten Flying Titans

The road to the PVL title will only get tougher. Next up for Davison and PLDT is a battle against Choco Mucho, a team that remains undefeated in 2025.

Sisi Rondina has been on a tear for the Flying Titans, and Davison knows that limiting her impact will be crucial.

“I think the top thing that comes to my mind right now is controlling our side of the net and making sure that [Rondina] does not score as much as she typically does,” said Davison, who played for the University of Oklahoma and New Mexico State University in the US NCAA.

While Rondina is the focal point, Davison acknowledged that Choco Mucho has several offensive threats.

“They have other people that work, and we try to look at and take care of them as well,” she said. “Hopefully, it’s gonna be a good game.”

With momentum on their side, the High Speed Hitters will need another standout performance from Davison if they hope to end Choco Mucho’s perfect run and take a step closer to history.
