Savi Davison named PVL Press Corps Player of the Week after career-high performance

Savi Davison has been named the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week after leading PLDT High Speed Hitters to a dramatic five-set victory over defending champion Creamline, handing the Cool Smashers their first loss in 19 matches.

Davison delivered a career-high 34 points, carrying PLDT to a 30-28, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 16-14 victory on Saturday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Filipino-Canadian outside hitter continued her MVP-caliber form with an all-around performance, tallying:

  • 29 attacks and five blocks
  • 17 excellent receptions

Her outstanding effort ended Creamline’s unbeaten run, which stretched back to August 2023.

Recognition Among the Best in the League

For the week of February 11 to 15, Davison stood out among the league’s top performers, earning the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week honor over other notable contenders:

  • Myla Pablo (Petro Gazz)
  • Bernadeth Pons (Creamline)
  • Sisi Rondina (Choco Mucho)
  • Ishie Lalongisip (Cignal)

This weekly award is decided by print and online reporters covering the PVL, recognizing players who deliver standout performances.

“Whatever it took. We were super focused from the start. We knew it was going to be a hard game, but we pulled through. Never gave up, so I’m really proud of what we did today,” Davison said after the victory.

A Team Effort Behind the Award-Winning Performance

While Davison’s 34-point explosion led the way, she credited PLDT’s collective effort for securing the hard-fought win.

Unlike previous matches where she carried most of the scoring load, four other players reached double digits:

  • Majoy Baron – 15 points
  • Fiola Ceballos – 14 points
  • Mika Reyes – 12 points
  • Erika Santos – 11 points

Davison also praised backup libero Nieza Viray, who stepped up after Kath Arado suffered from cramps late in the match.

“It was extra special because it took every single one of us—from the bench to the people on the court. Coach was able to shuffle in a lot of people. Shoutout to Nieza, she hasn’t gotten on the court much this year, but she really pulled through for us and got this win. Like I said, it’s a team effort, regardless of what I do, everyone showed up today.”

PLDT’s Standing and Next Challenge

With the win, PLDT improves to 7-3, tying with Cignal and Choco Mucho for fourth place with 20 points.

Davison and the High Speed Hitters will wrap up their first-round campaign against the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in another PVL on Tour match on Saturday next week in Passi, Iloilo.
