Mark Galedo bags silver in Masters ITT at Asian Road Championships

Filipino cycling veteran Mark John Lexer Galedo continues to prove that age is just a number, securing a silver medal in the Masters 40-44 individual time trial (ITT) at the Asian Cycling Confederation Road Championships on Saturday, February 8.

Galedo completed the 21-kilometer course in 28 minutes and 25.2 seconds, finishing just 35 seconds behind gold medalist Tawatchai Jeeradechatam of Thailand. Fellow Thai rider Kritsana Keawjun rounded out the podium with a bronze medal.

In another Masters category, Filipino cyclist Roderic Calla placed sixth in the 45-49 age group, showcasing the country’s strong presence in the competition.

Galedo’s Return to the International Stage

A decorated rider, Galedo previously won gold in the ITT event at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar. He officially retired from elite cycling in 2024 and was classified in the 40-44 category for this year’s championship based on his birth year.

Despite stepping away from professional competition, Galedo remains heavily involved in the sport. He currently serves as one of the coaches for the 21-member Philippine national cycling team, which is competing in Phitsanulok with support from the PhilCycling, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and MVP Sports Foundation.

“I’m so happy for this victory and so inspired to see our flag being raised here,” said Galedo. He also extended his gratitude to the PSC, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), PhilCycling president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, 7Eleven Roadbike Philippines, and his family for their continued support.

More Podium Finishes for the Philippines

Galedo’s success follows another notable achievement for the Philippine cycling team. National team coach Joey de los Reyes clinched a bronze medal in the Masters road race at last year’s Asian Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, Galedo is not done yet. After securing silver in the ITT, he is set to compete in the road race on Thursday, aiming to add another medal to his already impressive career.

With his latest podium finish, Galedo cements his status as one of the Philippines’ top cycling figures, proving that dedication and perseverance lead to continued success.
