Elise Mertens and Krawczyk/Olmos claim inaugural Singapore Tennis Open titles

Belgium’s Elise Mertens and the duo of Desirae Krawczyk and Giuliana Olmos made history as the first-ever champions of the Singapore Tennis Open, capping off an electrifying tournament at the Kallang Tennis Hub.

Mertens Claims Ninth Career WTA Title

Second-seed Elise Mertens delivered a dominant performance in the singles final, overpowering American Ann Li 6-1, 6-4 in just 82 minutes. The Belgian secured her first title since Monastir 2023 and her ninth career WTA singles trophy.

Mertens entered the final having dropped only one set throughout the tournament, while Li had reached the title match without conceding a single set. However, the final belonged to Mertens, who raced through the first set in just 26 minutes with her consistent baseline play.

Li showed resilience in the second set, breaking Mertens’ serve to level at 2-2, but the Belgian quickly regained control. Her tactical shot placement and steady groundstrokes proved too much for Li, who ultimately fell short. As Mertens sealed the victory, she collapsed onto the court in celebration of a historic triumph.

“This was the first time the Singapore Tennis Open was organized, and it was incredibly well-run,” Mertens said. “I hope to come back next year to defend my title. Singapore is an amazing city, and winning here has created such great memories and energy.”

Krawczyk and Olmos Dominate Doubles Final

In doubles action, Desirae Krawczyk and Giuliana Olmos claimed their first title together in nearly five years with a commanding 7-5, 6-0 victory over China’s Wang Xinyu and Zheng Saisai.

The American-Mexican duo faced tough competition throughout the tournament, with four of their seven sets leading up to the final being tightly contested. However, their chemistry and aggressive net play helped them secure the win.

After edging the first set 7-5, Krawczyk and Olmos carried their momentum into the second, storming to a 6-0 finish to clinch the championship.

“We just wanted to go out and play our game, have fun, and compete hard,” the pair shared after their victory. “The atmosphere in Singapore was amazing, and we truly appreciate all the support from the fans.”

A Tournament to Remember

The inaugural Singapore Tennis Open was a resounding success, drawing nearly 22,000 fans over nine days. Spectators enjoyed world-class tennis action, engaging activities at the Fan Village, and meet-and-greet sessions with WTA players.

Adding to the excitement, the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup (STIC) featured top talents from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Cambodia, providing a glimpse into the region’s growing tennis scene ahead of the 2025 SEA Games.

As part of the 2025 Hologic WTA Tour, the Singapore Tennis Open will return for two more editions in 2026 and 2027, cementing its place as a key event in the international tennis calendar.

With thrilling performances from champions Elise Mertens, Desirae Krawczyk, and Giuliana Olmos, the inaugural edition has set a high standard, promising even more excitement in the years to come.
