Veteran spiker Dindin Santiago-Manabat has been the driving force behind Choco Mucho’s strong start in the resumption of the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference. Her exceptional performances helped the Flying Titans secure three consecutive wins, solidifying their place in the playoff race.

Manabat’s brilliance on the court earned her the distinction as this year’s first PVL Press Corps Player of the Week, presented by Pilipinas Live, for the period of January 18 to January 25.

Leading the Charge for Choco Mucho

The 31-year-old standout delivered a vintage performance, partnering with ace spiker Sisi Rondina to propel Choco Mucho to a 5-3 win-loss record. Manabat’s efforts were instrumental in the team’s recent victories, especially in their thrilling comeback against ZUS Coffee last January 18, where she dropped 19 points, including 15 kills and four blocks, to seal a 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-9 win.

Despite the absence of key winger Kat Tolentino, who is recovering from appendix surgery, Manabat continued to shine. She delivered 16 points and eight digs in their 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 triumph over PLDT.

A Dedication to Teammates and History

Manabat dedicated her stellar performance to Tolentino, saying:

“Actually, ‘yung nilaro ko, inaalaay ko talaga siya kay Kat kasi isa siya talaga sa inspirasyon nitong araw kasi parang hindi niya deserve ‘yung nangyari sa kanya. Sobrang sipag niya, sobrang bait niya.”

Her contributions extend beyond the court as she remains committed to helping Choco Mucho make history. “Gusto ko lang talaga makatulong sa team kasi gusto ko na makagawa kami ng history sa Choco Mucho,” Manabat said, emphasizing the importance of following head coach Dante Alinsunurin’s system.

Recognition Well-Deserved

Manabat’s impressive performance outshined other standout players, including Sisi Rondina (Choco Mucho), Vanie Gandler (Cignal), Jema Galanza (Creamline), Myla Pablo (Petro Gazz), and others. The weekly award was deliberated by journalists covering the PVL and highlights her resurgence as one of the league’s top players.

With a week’s break before their next match against the Akari Chargers on February 8, Manabat remains focused on leading Choco Mucho closer to its goal of securing a breakthrough title.
