The inaugural Singapore Tennis Open 2025 (STO 2025) is set to make waves as world-class tennis hits the courts at the Kallang Tennis Hub. Scheduled to coincide with the Lunar New Year, the tournament will feature top-ranked WTA players like World No. 14 Anna Kalinskaya, 2021 US Open Champion Emma Raducanu, and 2020 WTA Player of the Year Sofia Kenin—all of whom will be making their Singapore debuts.
Kalinskaya, who made headlines in 2024 with her career-high World No. 11 ranking and a groundbreaking Grand Slam Quarter-Final appearance at the 2024 Australian Open, is expected to bring her precision and powerful playing style to the courts in Singapore.
“I’m excited to play in the first year of the Singapore Tennis Open,” Kalinskaya shared. “It will also be my first time in Singapore. I’ve heard amazing things about the energy of the fans and how multicultural the city is. I am looking forward to competing in the new Kallang Tennis Hub.”
Alongside Kalinskaya, Emma Raducanu, the former British No.1, is another fan favourite at the event. With her 2024 breakthrough win against World No. 5 Jessica Pegula, Raducanu’s rise in the rankings has placed her among the sport’s elite.
Sofia Kenin, a former Australian Open champion and French Open runner-up, is also set to take on the competition. With five singles and four doubles titles, Kenin’s attacking style promises to deliver plenty of thrilling moments at the tournament.
Adding further excitement, Grand Slam Doubles Champions Elise Mertens and Wang Xinyu will be showcasing their talents in singles. Mertens, a two-time Australian Open doubles champion, and Wang, the 2023 French Open doubles champion, are ranked among the top 40 WTA players in singles and are both eager to showcase their skills on the international stage.
“It’s always interesting to play in the opening edition of a tournament and I’m excited to be a part of it!” Mertens said.
Wang Xinyu, a standout Chinese player, is also drawing attention after her victory over Jessica Pegula at Wimbledon in 2024—an important milestone for Chinese tennis.
The tournament will feature qualifying rounds on January 25-26, offering fans the chance to witness up-and-coming talent battling for a spot in the main draw. Best of all, entry to the qualifying rounds is free, making it an excellent opportunity to discover the stars of tomorrow.
Laura Ceccarelli, co-Tournament Director of STO 2025, expressed her excitement: “We have a good mix of experience and fresh talent in the player field, and I believe the fans are in for some amazing matches.”
Yazed Osman, co-Tournament Director and Group Head of Kallang Alive Sport Management, added: “We are in the final stages of preparations to welcome professional women’s tennis back to the Singapore Sports Hub, and we look forward to sharing this historic moment with tennis fans around the world.”
With players from countries including China, Colombia, Japan, the UK, and the US, the Singapore Tennis Open 2025 promises to be an international showcase of talent. Plus, with sponsors like Turkish Airlines, Asics, and Polestar, the event is set to be a celebration both on and off the court.
