Joaquin Niemann delivered a career-defining performance at the $5 million PIF Saudi International, overcoming a dramatic playoff to secure victory at the Riyadh Golf Club. The Chilean golfer triumphed against stiff competition from Cam Smith and Caleb Surratt, etching his name in the history books of the Asian Tour’s International Series.

Niemann’s defining moment came on the second playoff hole when an exquisite lob shot set up a near-tap-in birdie, clinching the title. Both Smith and Surratt missed their birdie opportunities, sealing the win for Niemann. This victory, which earned him a $1 million prize, also crowned him the champion of The International Series Rankings after a season-long battle.

Dramatic Finish at Riyadh Golf Club

The tournament’s final day was filled with suspense. Niemann started with a slim one-shot lead but closed with a 67, falling back to 21 under par after a bogey on the 18th. His playoff rivals—Surratt, who carded a 66, and Smith, who stormed in with a remarkable 62—ensured a nail-biting finish.

On the first playoff hole, all three players made birdies, but Niemann’s precision on the second proved decisive. Reflecting on the win, Niemann said, “I enjoy being in that position. It’s a great way to wrap up the season. I’m excited for what’s coming next year on LIV Golf.”

Smith and Surratt: Near Misses in a Stunning Finale

Smith, who seemed out of contention, surged back with a sensational final round, almost claiming the title. “I was lucky to even be in the playoff,” Smith admitted. Meanwhile, Surratt, just 20 years old, came heartbreakingly close to his first professional victory. Despite his disappointment, he remained optimistic: “I hit six perfect shots in the playoff. Hopefully, my time will come.”

Niemann’s Stellar Season

This victory marked Niemann’s second win in Saudi Arabia this season, following his triumphs at LIV Golf Jeddah and LIV Golf Mayakoba. His consistency throughout the year earned him the coveted top spot in The International Series Rankings, solidifying his reputation as a global golfing powerhouse.

As Niemann sets his sights on future Majors and another season on the LIV Golf League, his PIF Saudi International victory serves as a testament to his resilience and skill.
