The Cignal HD Spikers exacted revenge on Savouge, dominating the Spin Doctors in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, during the semifinals opener of the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

After a stunning five-set loss to Savouge earlier in the elimination round, Cignal avenged their only defeat in the group stages with a commanding performance. The HD Spikers started strong, taking the first two sets by similar margins, 25-21. However, they showed their true power in the third set, dominating Savouge with a commanding 25-20 scoreline to close out the match.

“We knew it was important to reset and focus. We worked on consistency in training, and I’m proud of how the team executed today,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor. “Everyone contributed, and the maturity showed in their performance.”

Led by Louie Ramirez’s explosive 17-point effort, which included 17 attacks, the HD Spikers bounced back with focus and discipline. Rookie JM Ronquillo added 14 points to seal the win, while setter Owa Retamar orchestrated the offense with 22 excellent sets. Wendel Miguel and team captain JP Bugaoan contributed with solid defense and service receptions to help Cignal to an eighth consecutive victory.

Cignal now moves on with a 1-0 record in the round-robin semifinals, tied with Criss Cross, while Savouge drops to 0-1. The HD Spikers will next face FEU-DN Steel on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the same venue.

Savouge’s star player, Norwel Sanama, led his team with 11 points despite appearing to suffer an injury during the final rally. The Spin Doctors will look to bounce back when they face the Japanese team KondohGumi Hyogo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
