The Savouge Spin Doctors snapped a two-game skid in emphatic fashion, sweeping the D’Navigators Iloilo 28-26, 25-21, 25-19 on Sunday, November 24, at the Ynares Sports Arena to rekindle their semifinal hopes in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference.

In a thrilling first set, the Spin Doctors demonstrated grit and composure to edge the D’Navigators in extended play, setting the tone for the remainder of the match. Capitalizing on their momentum, Savouge powered through the next two sets with improved service and precise execution to seal the victory in just over 100 minutes.

With the win, Savouge climbed back to No. 4 in the standings with a 5-2 record, keeping their semifinal bid alive. The team’s confidence has been restored as they head into two critical matches—against EcoOil La Salle on Friday and the Criss Cross Titans on Sunday.

Head coach Sydney Calderon credited the team’s victory to going back to the fundamentals.

“Nag-focus lang ulit kami sa mga basic… Nag-polish kami sa service at receive, which cost us in the past two games,” Calderon said.

Savouge Stars Step Up

Norwel Sanama emerged as the match MVP with a stellar performance, scoring 16 points on 15-of-23 spiking and proving his value despite limited minutes in recent games.

Giles Torres contributed 12 points, including four critical blocks, while Sherwin Caritativo added nine points and 11 excellent receptions to help maintain the Spin Doctors’ dominance.

Savouge controlled the second set after surviving a tense 22-21 situation, taking advantage of Iloilo’s errors and a timely block from Torres against Kent Sabando to secure a two-set lead.

The third set was all Savouge as Sanama and Caritativo led a 16-9 surge, eventually closing out the match 25-19 to keep their semifinal dream alive in the season-ending tournament.

D’Navigators Struggle Continue

For the D’Navigators Iloilo, the loss extended their seven-match losing streak, leaving them at ninth place in the standings with a 1-7 record.

Despite the setback, Iloilo’s Kyle Villamor delivered a valiant effort with nine points and five receptions. Madz Gampong and Bryan Jaleco contributed eight and seven points, respectively, but their shorthanded nine-player lineup struggled to match Savouge’s firepower.

The D’Navigators will look to end their campaign on a positive note as they take on the Martelli Meats Master Butchers on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
