The DN Steel Far Eastern University Ultras secured the first semifinal berth in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational with a commanding 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 win over EcoOil La Salle on Friday, November 22, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. The victory marked a return to form for the Ultras, who rebounded from their first loss in the tournament last Sunday.

FEU’s offense was a spectacle of precision and power, keeping the Green Oilers on their heels. Team captain Jelord Talisayan led the charge with 11 points, supported by Lirick Mendoza’s 10 markers, while Mikko Espartero and Dryx Saavedra each contributed nine points. Doula Ndongala added seven crucial points, rounding out a balanced attack orchestrated by setter Benny Martinez, who delivered 17 excellent sets.

The Green Oilers, led by Alas Pilipinas standout Noel Kampton with 13 points, struggled to counter FEU’s relentless offensive variety. Despite moments of brilliance, including a 22-21 lead in the third set, La Salle faltered in critical moments, with errors and missed opportunities ultimately sealing their defeat.

“‘Yung mind-setting talaga na pinrepare namin reresbak talaga ‘yung La Salle eh,” said Ultras head coach Eddieson Orcullo. “Thankful din kami kasi ginusto rin ng boys namin na makuha ‘yung match. Actually, hindi ko ineexpect na mag-straight sets eh.”

The pivotal third set showcased the Green Oilers’ fight, with Kampton’s heroics leveling the score at 23-all. But FEU’s resilience shone through as Espartero’s off-the-block hit and La Salle’s subsequent errors handed the Ultras the set and the match.

With the win, the Ultras improved to 7-1 and solidified their place in the semifinals, where their offensive prowess and teamwork will be further tested.
