Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai is on the verge of making history at the Taiwan Glass Taifong Open, sitting tied for the lead after an impressive third-round performance. Sharing the top spot with fellow Thai golfer Runchanapong Youprayong, Suteepat aims to become the first golfer to successfully defend the title at this prestigious event.
Suteepat, who also claimed victory at the Yeangder TPC in Chinese-Taipei this September, fired a solid four-under-par 68 at the Taifong Golf Club. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Runchanapong delivered a remarkable 66, including birdies on the final three holes, showcasing his potential on the big stage.
The duo leads the $400,000 tournament on an impressive 18-under-par, four strokes ahead of a group of contenders that includes Australia’s Jack Thompson, Thailand’s Danthai Boonma, Chonlatit Chuenboonngam, and Chinese-Taipei’s Hung Chien-yao.
Suteepat’s Determination
Suteepat’s connection with Chinese-Taipei remains evident as he recovered from a bogey on the first hole to notch five birdies. Reflecting on his round, the 31-year-old remarked:
“I three-putted the first but holed a 15-footer for birdie on eight, which was the turning point. I’ve never defended a title before, and tomorrow is a big day. My focus is on creating as many chances as possible.”
Runchanapong’s Rise
For Runchanapong, the final round represents the biggest moment of his budding professional career. In just his second year as a pro, he credited his strong putting for his success this week:
“The greens really suit me, and I’ve been holing putts consistently. Tomorrow, I’ll focus on playing the course, not the other players.”
Other Contenders
Danthai Boonma, chasing his third Asian Tour title, delivered a bogey-free 65, saying, “Made birdie on number five, which is one of the toughest holes. That helped me relax and stay focused.”
Chinese-Taipei’s Max Lee Chieh-po, currently ranked third on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, also remains in contention after a strong round of 67, sitting six shots behind the leaders.
A Thrilling Finale Awaits
As the final round approaches, all eyes are on Suteepat and Runchanapong. With a thrilling Sunday showdown on the horizon, golf enthusiasts worldwide will be eager to see if Suteepat can etch his name in history books with a successful title defense.
