The 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season is set to be historic, marking the league’s longest season to date, stretching six months with an exciting All-Filipino Conference at its core.
The season opens on Nov. 9 with a revised schedule in line with the international FIVB calendar.
Fans are eager for the 6:30 p.m. main event, where Choco Mucho will begin its redemption arc against Petro Gazz at Philsports Arena in Pasig. The Flying Titans look to overcome last season’s struggles, while the Angels, two-time Reinforced champions, are determined to rebound after last season’s round-robin semifinal exit.
At 4 p.m., Akari, a standout in the recent Reinforced Conference, faces Galeries Tower with a renewed lineup and ambitions for a championship run.
Defending champion and Grand Slam holder Creamline will debut on Nov. 16 against longtime rival Petro Gazz at Ynares Center in Antipolo City. This much-anticipated match is expected to set the season’s tone as the Cool Smashers aim to defend their title and clinch a fifth consecutive championship.
Chery Tiggo, under new head coach Norman Miguel, debuts against Capital1 on Nov. 12, while PLDT faces Nxled, led by Italian coach Ettore Guidetti. Both matches will be held at Philsports Arena, showcasing the league’s rising competition.
Excitement builds as fans await the debut of ZUS Coffee’s first overall Rookie Draftee, Thea Gagate, who joins the Thunderbelles against Akari on Nov. 14 at Filoil EcoOil Arena.
Other key matchups include a clash between Cignal and Farm Fresh on Nov. 16.
This season will also revive the intense rivalry between the Cool Smashers and Flying Titans, set for Dec. 3 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The action continues as PLDT meets Akari on Dec. 14 in their first encounter since their heated semifinal in the recent Reinforced Conference.
The PVL will reach fans nationwide with games scheduled outside Metro Manila: Candon, Ilocos Sur on Nov. 23, Cebu on Dec. 7, and Passi, Iloilo on Feb. 22, wrapping up the first-round preliminaries.
After preliminaries, teams will be ranked from 1 to 12 following the FIVB Classification system.
In the qualifying round, matchups will pair Rank 1 vs. Rank 12, Rank 2 vs. Rank 11, Rank 3 vs. Rank 10, Rank 4 vs. Rank 9, Rank 5 vs. Rank 8, and Rank 6 vs. Rank 7, with winners advancing to the playoffs.
Losing teams will enter the play-in tournament.
In the play-in tournament, losing teams from the qualifying round will be re-ranked, with the top ranked as 7 and the lowest as 12. The tournament will have two groups: Group 1 includes Rank 7, Rank 10, and Rank 11, while Group 2 includes Rank 8, Rank 9, and Rank 12. Each group plays a single round, with top teams moving to the playoffs, where the Group 1 winner becomes Rank 7 and Group 2 winner becomes Rank 8.
The quarterfinals will feature a best-of-three series, advancing winners to the round-robin semifinals. A playoff match will resolve any semifinal ties to determine the finalists.
