MAPAMASA, a conglomeration of Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) instructors from Marikina-Pasig-Mandaluyong-San Juan, is set to hold the 2024 MAPAMASA Taekwondo Championships on Sunday, May 19, starting at 7:00 a.m.

Organized by a conglomeration of Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) instructors from Marikina-Pasig-Mandaluyong-San Juan,  the one-day event brings together various local jins who will compete in the Poomsae and Kyorugi events categorized via different age divisions, namely:

  • Toddler Division (8-years-old and below)
  • Grade School Division (9 to 11 years old)
  • Cadet Division (12 to 14 years old)
  • Junior Division (15 to 17 years old)
  • Senior Division (18 years old and above)

POOMSAE, or the sport of forms and patterns, enhances the focus and understanding of the martial art of Taekwondo.

This event will display the TAEGUK form, a basic form or pattern used to simulate a multi-directional attack.

The different TAEGEUK forms per belt are as follows:

  • Taegeuk 1 (Yellow belts)
  • Taegeuk 3 (Blue belts)
  • Taegeuk 5 (Red belts)
  • Taegeuk 7 (Brown belts)

*Black belts will be given forms based on a drawing of lots by the tournament committee

On the other hand, KYORUGI, or the sport of sparring and fighting, leans toward the agility and strength of a student and developing self-confidence.

KYORUGI is an official event in all Asian Olympic qualifiers and the Olympic games itself.

All events will be held on 6×6 meter mats that will serve as courts for the tournament.

It is the focus and vision of the 2024 MAPAMASA Taekwondo Championships to highlight the grassroots programs of both public and private schools dedicated to the propagation of the sport.

The 2024 MAPAMASA Taekwondo Championships will be the first leg for the group that has been staging similar events since 2017.

With the help of corporate groups such as Ortigas Land Corporation, the dreams of many children have been fulfilled, paving the way for their future.

For this leg of the MAPAMASA events, the major backers are Tiendesitas Mall & Events Place, located in Ortigas East, Pasig City.
