Bacolod City is converting 43 schools into billeting quarters for what is shaping up to be the largest Batang Pinoy National Championships ever. The schools offer 30,996 bed spaces for a record field of 35,894 registered participants at the Dec. 12-18 games.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and city officials mapped out the preparations in a coordination meeting. The tally covers 27,763 athletes, 6,144 coaches and 1,987 officials from more than 200 local government units, competing in 30 sports.

PSC Chairman John Patrick “Pato” Gregorio called Batang Pinoy a foundation of Philippine sports development. “These championships help identify future members of our national teams and provide a pathway for young Filipinos to pursue excellence in sports,” he said.
Bacolod Readies Venues and Security
The Panaad Stadium will serve as the main hub of competitions. Organizers also plan to invite President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the opening ceremony.
The Philippine National Police has assured organizers that comprehensive security measures are in place. The measures are meant to safeguard athletes, coaches, officials and visitors throughout the games.
Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya said the event matters to young local athletes. “The Batang Pinoy will be a game-changer for youth sports in Bacolod. Imagine thousands of young athletes competing at the biggest grassroots event right in our city,” he said.
Councilor Jason Villarosa is Bacolod’s designated head of delegation, while City Administrator Atty. Mark Steven Mayo is also leading preparations. PSC Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo is the project director of the games.
Taekwondo tops the registrations with 3,327 athletes, followed by aquatics with 3,042 and futsal with 2,009. Athletics has 1,803 entries, while chess, arnis and badminton have 1,582, 1,435 and 1,300, respectively.
Sports Tourism Eyes Big Gains
“Sports tourism will be one of the biggest winners in Bacolod. For every young athlete who comes here, there is often a parent, guardian, or family companion traveling with them,” said Gregorio, who chairs the National Sports Tourism-Inter Agency Committee.
With nearly 36,000 registered participants expected, local officials anticipate a significant boost to the tourism and hospitality sectors. Gregorio said the number of visitors can easily double once families are counted.
“This is also a chance for Bacolod to shine on the national stage. We welcome this opportunity to showcase our rich culture, warm hospitality, and vibrant community while hosting one of the biggest youth sporting events in the country,” said Gasataya.
Established to strengthen grassroots sports development, Batang Pinoy gives young athletes across the country equal opportunities to compete. Bacolod has hosted the national youth games before.
