Fifty years after its founding, the Philippine Taekwondo Association is looking ahead. A new National Taekwondo Center is rising at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called it a “significant milestone” for the sport. PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio read his message at the PTA’s Golden Anniversary Gala Saturday.

PTA Marks 50 Years With Presidential Praise
“Since its founding in 1976, the PTA has remained steadfast,” the President’s message read. He credited the group with building discipline in generations of Filipino athletes.
Marcos said the PTA runs over a hundred competitions yearly. He noted its grassroots programs have reached even the country’s farthest regions.
The PTA is led by president Rafael Alunan III and Grandmaster Hong Sung-Chong. Marcos said their global partnerships have opened more doors for Filipino athletes to compete abroad.

The PTA’s next chapter centers on its new National Taekwondo Center. It is rising inside Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, replacing the old PSC Bowling Center.
The facility can house up to 100 athletes at a time. Groundbreaking took place last March, with completion targeted for December or early next year.
Gregorio said the center will let the country host more international meets. “The shift will surely open up great opportunities for our sports,” he said.
Alunan called the project two decades in the making. “After 20 years, our dream will soon be a reality,” he said, thanking the PSC.
Marcos closed by linking the milestone to his sports agenda. He pledged continued government backing as the PTA begins its next 50 years.
