The United States opened its Volleyball Nations League Week 2 campaign in impressive fashion after overpowering the Dominican Republic, 25-20, 25-19, 25-12, on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City. Featuring a refreshed roster for the Philippine leg, the Americans quickly established control to collect their fourth victory of the tournament.
Guided by captain and setter Jordyn Poulter, the United States executed its offense with precision and consistently found scoring opportunities throughout the match. The Americans finished with a commanding 43-31 advantage in attack points while maintaining pressure from the opening serve until the final point.

USA Controls Offense
Jordan Thompson spearheaded the American attack with 15 points, highlighted by 13 successful attacks and two service aces. Her consistent production helped keep the Dominican defense under pressure as the United States showcased its offensive depth.
Logan Eggleston also delivered an efficient outing by scoring 10 points, all from attacks, while middle blocker Dana Rettke made her presence felt at the net with 10 points, including five attacks and five blocks. Their balanced contributions allowed the Americans to dictate the tempo throughout the contest.
The United States also displayed impressive serving power, with one serve exceeding 91 kilometers per hour. Although both teams finished with two aces each, the Americans repeatedly forced the Dominican Republic into difficult offensive situations through sustained pressure.
Thompson Praises Team Chemistry
Despite the dominant result, Thompson admitted the performance was not flawless as the newly assembled roster continues building chemistry during the tournament. She emphasized the team’s ability to overcome challenges despite limited time together.
“Practicing, training and just trying to gel together as a group, since it was a new roster,” Thompson said.
“It wasn’t always pretty, but I think what we do really well is finding ways to grit through it, even when it’s not exactly how we want it,” she added.
The Dominican Republic received eight points from veteran outside hitter Yokaira Paola Pena Ysabel, who produced seven attacks, while young opposite Alondra Denis Tapia Cruz added five points, all from attacks. Despite holding statistical advantages in reception and sets, the Dominicans struggled to match the United States’ offensive efficiency.
With the victory, the United States improved to 4-1 in the Volleyball Nations League standings. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic remained winless after dropping its fifth consecutive match of the competition.
