Red Bull Half Court finals set Mandaluyong showdown for world stage

The road from local courts to the international stage reaches its biggest moment yet for some of the country’s top streetball players.

The Red Bull Half Court Philippines National Finals heads to Bigger Pictures in Mandaluyong on June 13, bringing together the best teams from Manila, Cebu, and Davao for a winner-takes-all battle. With spots in the Red Bull Half Court World Finals in Manila at stake, every possession could define which squads earn the right to represent the Philippines on the global stage.

The tournament follows months of regional qualifiers across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, where teams fought through intense brackets to secure a place in the national showdown. Now, only one men’s team and one women’s team will emerge with the opportunity to compete against elite international streetball squads later this year.

Unlike traditional three-on-three basketball formats, Red Bull Half Court pushes teams into a high-pressure environment built around speed, scoring, and constant offensive aggression. Games last only 10 minutes, while the first team to reach 21 points automatically secures victory.

Adding another layer of intensity is the Own the Court Bonus, where six points are awarded based on cumulative scoring output across matches. Teams are therefore forced to balance smart basketball with relentless offense because scoring margins can ultimately determine final standings.

The tournament’s unique three-point shot rule also remains in play following its introduction in 2024. Players can attempt shots from special marked circles positioned two metres behind the arc, with successful attempts counting for three points instead of the standard two.

Regional teams chase history

The women’s division features Uratex Tibay and Lady Maroons representing Manila, Gimcuad-Ninz carrying Cebu’s hopes, and three-time regional champion Coaches Corner representing Davao. Each team enters the finals with different levels of experience but the same objective of reaching the world stage.

In the men’s division, SGF Kings and Filipino Mixtape banner Manila’s challenge, while Team BOKKI represents Cebu and Davao Agilas seeks another dominant run after winning multiple regional titles.

Several players highlighted the significance of competing in an event that creates opportunities beyond local basketball circles. Davao Agilas player Mart Redyn Arellano said the road from community courts to international competition proves that discipline and resilience can open doors for Filipino athletes.

Lorelaine Pulido Gestopa of Coaches Corner also emphasized how meaningful the opportunity is for provincial players who have long dreamed of sharing the court with international stars they admire.

The teams enter the national finals carrying distinct playing identities shaped by their regional basketball cultures. Manila squads have become known for structured execution and quick decision-making developed through years of competitive urban basketball. Cebu teams thrive on aggressive offense and fast scoring bursts suited for the tournament’s rapid pace.

Davao’s representatives, meanwhile, have built their reputation around chemistry, physicality, and composure under pressure after dominating their regional qualifiers.

World finals opportunity awaits

For many participants, the tournament represents more than a championship chase because the Red Bull Half Court platform has steadily elevated Filipino streetball on the international scene since 2021.

Filipino Mixtape player Nathan Heinrich Egea described the Philippines as a nation where basketball exists in every corner, adding that hosting the world finals reflects the country’s deep connection to the sport.

Uratex Tibay’s LJ Miranda stressed the importance of showing the world how Filipinos compete with heart and integrity, while Gimcuad-Ninz player Mary Angela Abejar Alcos highlighted the emotional intensity that defines local streetball culture.

Doors for the Red Bull Half Court Philippines National Finals open at 3 p.m. at Bigger Pictures in Mandaluyong. By the end of the night, two teams will earn the chance to carry the Philippine flag into the Red Bull Half Court World Finals in Manila later this year.
