Sisi Rondina and Dij Rodriguez stamped their class once again, overcoming a fierce challenge from National University-DutchBoy’s Kat Epa and Kizil Quijote to secure the women’s championship in the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour Sipalay Open Sunday, May 10, at a packed Poblacion Beach in Negros Occidental.
The star-studded tandem battled back from a first-set loss before storming to a 19-21, 21-13, 15-6 victory, completing a flawless five-match sweep in the tournament. Their championship run highlighted resilience and championship poise, especially after also surviving a grueling semifinal clash against fellow Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Sunny Villapando and Gen Eslapor.
Rondina and Rodriguez shine bright
Rondina and Rodriguez showcased why they remain among the country’s elite beach volleyball stars, overcoming two of their toughest hurdles in one tournament. Rondina’s return to BVR after several years proved memorable, with the massive Sipalay crowd adding to the emotional triumph.
The title marked Rondina’s sixth BVR On Tour championship and Rodriguez’s fourth, further cementing their dominance on the sand. Rondina also celebrated the sport’s growing popularity in the Philippines, expressing hope for more tournaments nationwide.

Alas men reclaim supremacy
In the men’s division, Alas Pilipinas stars Ranran Abdilla and Ronniel Rosales delivered a resilient comeback to defeat Beach Volleyball Manila’s Edwin Tolentino and Lerry Francisco, 21-23, 21-18, 15-7, in an entertaining final.
The victory secured their second BVR On Tour title of the year after their Nuvali Open triumph. Abdilla’s latest championship also added to his remarkable BVR legacy, giving him eight career gold medals.
After dropping the opening set, Abdilla and Rosales regained control with veteran composure and overwhelmed their opponents in the deciding frame. Their title run reaffirmed their status as one of the premier men’s tandems in Philippine beach volleyball.
