Heritage ride sets tone for Tour of Luzon 2026
Metro Manila Development Authority General Manager Nicolas Torre III led the heritage ride, underscoring support for cycling advocacy. The 60-kilometer event brought together organizers and participants ahead of the official race start.
Tour Chief Organizer Arrey Perez emphasized the significance of the ride in building momentum for the competition. The participation of cycling advocates and officials reflected the growing push for the sport in the country.
Dinah Remolacio, president of organizer Mad Management, also joined the event, which started and finished in CaSoBe, Calatagan. The ride served as both a symbolic and practical lead-in to the multi-stage race.
Paquito Rivas honored with King of the Mountain jersey
The Tour of Luzon will honor legendary cyclist Paquito Rivas by naming the King of the Mountain polka dot jersey after him. Rivas earned the title “Eagle of the Mountain” after dominating climbs during his career.
He won the individual time trial race finishing in Baguio City three times, cementing his legacy in Philippine cycling. The tribute aims to preserve his contributions and inspire future riders.
The race will officially begin with a Grand Depart in Calatagan and conclude with a Grand Finish in Tagaytay City before culminating in a demanding climb to Baguio. The route includes 14 stages covering key locations across Luzon.
Stage highlights include a team time trial in Clark, multiple long-distance stages across Northern Luzon, and mountain finishes that will test endurance. The final stages will feature critical climbs, including Kennon Road leading to Baguio City.
The Tour of Luzon 2026 will award P1 million to the individual champion and P2 million to the winning team. With its expanded prize pool and historic tributes, the event promises a competitive and meaningful return to the cycling calendar.
