Philippine women’s sprint team claims silver medal
Laurance teamed up with Shane Joy Ponce, Lianne Diana Pama, and Olympian Kristina Marie Knott to secure silver in the 4×60 meter relay. The quartet delivered a strong performance despite the unique challenges of beach athletics.
The race required adjustments due to the shorter exchange zone and absence of a baton, adding complexity to the event. Knott noted that the exchange zone became a key factor in the outcome of the race.
Laurance expressed satisfaction with her performance, exceeding expectations in an unfamiliar environment. Competing on sand presented new challenges, but the team adapted well to secure the podium finish.
Beach volleyball teams advance to quarterfinals
The Alas Pilipinas beach volleyball squads continued their impressive run by reaching the quarterfinals. Sunny Villapando and Grydelle Matibag dominated their Round of 16 match against Sri Lanka in straight sets.
Villapando and Matibag emphasized the importance of ball control and consistency, which helped them dictate the pace of the match. Their chemistry and execution proved crucial in advancing to the next round.
Khylem Progella and Sofiah Pagara also moved into the quarterfinals after defeating Kazakhstan in convincing fashion. Both teams now prepare for tougher challenges as they aim for podium finishes.
Other Philippine teams also remained active in the competition, with the dragon boat squad finishing fifth in the men’s 800-meter event. The 3×3 basketball teams are also set to continue their campaigns with key matches ahead.
With multiple events still ongoing, Team Philippines continues to build momentum and strengthen its position in the standings as the Asian Beach Games progress.
