Savouge turns tide with key adjustments
Head coach Sydney Calderon urged his players to fight back after falling behind early. “Nung third set, sinabi ko lang sa kanila na huwag tayong magpagulpi. Lumaban tayo! Hindi tayo pinalaki ng Sexbomb na hindi tayo lalaban,” he said. The message sparked energy as Savouge began to build momentum in the third and fourth sets.
Calderon made a crucial lineup adjustment by moving Mark Calado to the outside spiker position. Joeven Dela Vega was inserted at opposite, giving the team a new offensive look. The changes paid off as the Spin Doctors found rhythm and forced a fifth set.
Savouge faced a late challenge in the deciding frame as Alpha Insurance stayed within striking distance. The Spin Doctors held a slim 10-9 lead before unleashing a decisive 5-0 run. The finishing burst sealed the comeback win in one hour and 50 minutes.
Bugaoan and Caritativo lead finishing push
JP Bugaoan delivered a standout performance with 17 points built on 12 attacks, four blocks, and an ace. Dela Vega added 12 points, while Calado contributed 11 markers in his new role. Giles Torres chipped in 10 points, providing steady support throughout the match.
Shawie Caritativo played a key role in the closing stretch, delivering clutch hits and anchoring the defense. He finished with nine points, 20 excellent receptions, and six digs. His all-around effort helped stabilize Savouge during critical moments of the match.
JM Ronquillo led Alpha Insurance with 16 points, while Edward Camposano and Billie Anima added 15 points each. Despite the loss, the Protectors showed competitiveness against one of the league’s top teams. Both squads will return to action at the Paco Arena, with Savouge facing VNS Always Bright Laticrete and Alpha Insurance taking on AEP-Cabstars.
