The Philippine Sports Commission hosted a ceremonial handover of select memorabilia from boxing icon Manny Pacquiao on 24 February 2026 at the Philippine Sports Museum in Pasig City. The event formally integrated the items into the museum’s permanent collection, safeguarding one of the most remarkable careers in Philippine sports history.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. received the memorabilia in a ceremony attended by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio, and Philippine Paralympic Committee president Michael Barredo. The event highlighted Pacquiao’s unprecedented achievements and reinforced his enduring impact on the nation.

“What can I say about Manny Pacquiao and his boxing career that hasn’t been said before? Because lahat — all the superlatives, all the praises — have already been heaped upon him and well deserved,’’ said President Marcos.

Pacquiao’s legacy preserved for generations

PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio emphasized the importance of immortalizing Pacquiao’s accomplishments. “We commit Manny Pacquiao’s legacy to national memory to inspire and ignite future champions. Your sweat, your tears, your blood, your life. We can never thank you enough,” he said.

Globally recognized as the only eight-division world champion, Pacquiao redefined boxing boundaries while elevating Philippine pride on the international stage. The artifacts donated capture historic moments that resonated far beyond the ring.

Key items included in the donation were:

  • Representative Fight Trunk (Miguel Cotto Bout, 2009) — Marking Pacquiao’s WBO Welterweight Championship victory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, securing his seventh world title in seven different weight divisions.

  • Representative Fight Trunk (Antonio Margarito Bout, 2010) — Commemorating Pacquiao’s historic triumph at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, where he became the first and only fighter to win world titles in eight separate weight categories.

  • World Boxing Council (WBC) Championship Belt — Symbolizing resilience, courage, and the global recognition of Pacquiao’s achievements.

“These memorabilia are more than milestones in a boxing career — they embody moments when Filipino determination, discipline, and excellence resonated across the world,” Gregorio said.

A celebration of Filipino sports excellence

The handover ceremony included PSC Commissioners Bong Coo, Fritz Gaston, and Walter Torres, as well as PSC Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy. Gregorio reflected on the broader significance: “When the President recognizes and memorializes an athlete, he places sports at the center of nation-building — this appeals to the heart and nobility of athletes across the nation.”

Pacquiao’s career remains a symbol of perseverance, faith, and the limitless potential of the Filipino spirit. By preserving his memorabilia, the Philippine Sports Museum ensures that his story will continue to inspire generations of athletes and citizens alike, transforming extraordinary individual triumphs into lasting sources of national pride.
