FC Barcelona are close to finalizing the signing of Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo after the club confirmed he passed all required medical and physical examinations. The successful tests cleared the final hurdle before the deal is formally completed.

Club officials said Cancelo arrived in Barcelona earlier this week and completed the process without complications. The move strengthens a squad that has already gathered momentum following recent domestic success.

The 31-year-old is set to return to the club after previously spending the 2023-24 season in Catalonia. His familiarity with the environment and competition is expected to smooth his reintegration.

Return to familiar surroundings

During his previous spell, Cancelo made 42 appearances across all competitions and quickly became a regular fixture in the lineup. His attacking support from deep positions added another dimension to Barcelona’s play.

That experience has played a major role in the club’s decision to bring him back. Barcelona believe his understanding of the system will allow him to contribute immediately.

Defensive depth for the season

Cancelo arrives from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal and is expected to provide cover on both flanks of the defense. His versatility offers balance as the schedule intensifies.

With multiple competitions in play, Barcelona see his return as a key move to maintain consistency and stability. The defender’s experience is viewed as vital in the months ahead.
