PH ambassador welcomes Team Philippines ahead of SEA Games campaign

Philippine Ambassador Millicent Cruz Paredes welcomed Team Philippines ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok. She pledged the Embassy’s full support and encouragement to the delegation. The welcome reception was held Wednesday night, December 10, at a local restaurant.

The event was attended by PSC chairman Patrick “Patò” Gregorio, POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, and other key officials. “I would like to address the Philippine delegation with great honor for being here,” Paredes said. She expressed pride in the athletes and confidence in their performance.

She also attended the SEA Games opening ceremony on Tuesday. Paredes encouraged the athletes to aim higher than the country’s fifth-place finish in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. “We will continue to support all of you and just tell us how we can help you,” she added.

Key officials and sports leaders join reception

The reception was attended by Chef de Mission Dr. Jose Raul Canlas and deputy Jop Malonzo. Asian Volleyball Confederation president Ramon “Tats” Suzara and POC board director Donaldo Caringal were also present. House Youth and Sports Committee chairman Rep. Mike Dy joined the delegation, along with association heads Leonora Escollante (canoe kayak), Ali Sulit (judo), and Ricky Lim (karatedo).

PSC commissioner Walter Torres and executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy were also in attendance. Double Olympic boxing medalist Nesthy Petecio thanked Ambassador Paredes for her support. The gathering highlighted unity and encouragement as the athletes prepare for competition.

Delegation motivated for SEA Games success
