Criss Cross finally seized its long-awaited Spikers’ Turf crown, surviving a fierce challenge from Kindai University in a five-set showdown at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The King Crunchers endured the unrelenting pressure of a youthful and disciplined Japanese side, ultimately triumphing 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 22-20 to claim their first Invitational Conference championship.

After three runner-up finishes to Cignal, the team’s patience and resilience were rewarded in a night that tested every ounce of heart and composure. Six championship points threatened to derail their dream, but Criss Cross rose each time to write history.

Jude Garcia starred with 35 points, including a decisive hammer in the extended fifth set, while Haruka Misugi’s final swing sailed just long, giving the home side its moment of glory.

While Garcia delivered an awe-inspiring performance, the victory was a team effort. Nico Almendras and Poy Colinares each scored 15 points, and Noel Kampton added 13, including the critical equalizer at 20 in the decider.

Setter Adrian Villados orchestrated the offense with poise, finishing with 34 excellent sets and earning Finals MVP honors. “Ang ginawa ko lang talaga, perform every game, every training 100 percent,” said Villados, emphasizing trust in his teammates and coaching staff.

Criss Cross’s resilience shone through when Colinares was denied by Tohiro Shimomasu on Kindai’s sixth championship point. Kampton answered with veteran calm, Villados set Garcia for the go-ahead kill, and the King Crunchers sealed their first title in dramatic fashion.
