Carlo Biado etched his name even deeper into the annals of Philippine sports history after winning the 2025 World Pool 9-Ball Championship in Jeddah on Sunday. This triumph marks Biado’s second world title, making him the only active player in the world to secure the prestigious crown twice.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino lauded Biado’s victory, emphasizing its cultural and national significance.

“This is another great reason to rejoice and celebrate—Carlo Biado winning in Jeddah and becoming the only player in the world to emerge 9-ball champion twice,” Tolentino said. “Long live Biado and Philippine billiards.”

Biado previously captured the world title in 2017 in Doha, joining a legendary group of Filipino champions that includes Efren “Bata” Reyes (1999 in Cardiff), Ronnie Alcano (2006 in the Philippines), and Francisco “Django” Bustamante (2010 in Doha).

POC backs Biado amid national billiards transition

Following the suspension of the Billiard Sports Confederation of the Philippines (BSCP) by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sport (ACBS) last March, the POC has taken on the responsibility of managing national billiards affairs.

“We will continue to work, guide and help our national billiard athletes in their training and competitions abroad, including in the Thailand SEA Games this December,” Tolentino stated.

Biado’s decorated career includes a gold medal at the 2017 Wroclaw World Games and multiple Southeast Asian Games victories, including golds in Singapore (2015), Kuala Lumpur (2017), and Vietnam (2021).
