Calling a spade a spade.
UP flatly denied earlier rumors that it was interested in this basketball mercenary, (La Salle also did).
And then UP broke its word.
It’s the bastardization of UAAP college basketball that is poaching. It has become the haven of basketball mercenaries who switch schools not because of academics but rather because of money.
It’s not the fault of the athlete, of course, to forsake his loyalty (and soul?) to one team and then sleep in bed with the highest bidder in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.
Only that they are the Filipino basketball mercenaries of our time.
I doff my hat off to the top FEU officials and the UST women’s volleyball coach. Mayroon pa rin disenteng mga opisyales in college sports. And they don’t belong to the elite schools that think so highly of themselves, the moneyed, “educated” elitista.
Winning is not everything if it comes with a lack of decency and respect for other schools that had nurtured these gullible athletes before they were bedeviled by indecent proposals.
Basketball prostitution used to be the harem of the pro leagues. Now it has also become the whorehouse of college basketball.
