The MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026 is set to roll out on April 29 in Calatagan with strong institutional backing after receiving recognition from the National Sports Tourism Inter-Agency Committee (NST-IAC). The 14-stage race will feature a mix of local and international teams, highlighting the country’s growing cycling scene.
The endorsement underscores the event’s alignment with national sports tourism goals, further boosting its profile as one of the Philippines’ premier cycling competitions. It also reinforces the Tour’s role in promoting both athletic development and tourism across multiple regions.

National backing boosts Tour of Luzon return
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick “Pató” Gregorio emphasized the importance of the race in advancing both sports and tourism. He noted that the PSC fully supports the event as it aligns with NST-IAC objectives and contributes to athlete development.
Gregorio, regarded as a key figure in reviving the historic race, stressed the significance of providing opportunities for Filipino cyclists. He added that participation from qualified athletes and personnel is strongly encouraged as the Tour continues to grow.
The Tour returns for a second straight year under the theme “A Heritage in Motion,” with the Grand Depart set at 8 a.m. from CaSoBe in Calatagan. Riders will head to Tagaytay City for the opening stage finish, where PhilCycling and Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino will welcome the participants.
International field, grueling route headline 14-stage race
At least six foreign teams have already confirmed their participation, with three more awaiting approval, according to chief organizer Arrey Perez. They will compete alongside nine local squads for a total prize pool of P12 million, including P1 million for the individual champion and P2 million for the top team.
The race will be conducted under UCI regulations through sanctioning by PhilCycling, ensuring international standards. Gregorio also highlighted that the Tour caters not only to elite riders but also inspires aspiring cyclists across the country.
The multi-stage route spans key locations, beginning with Calatagan to Tagaytay before moving through Clark, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan Valley, and Northern Luzon. Highlights include an individual time trial in Pagudpud, a historic climb at Bessang Pass, and a final uphill finish at Scout Hill in Baguio City.
A rest day is scheduled in Pagudpud before the race resumes toward Ilocos and Pangasinan, culminating in a demanding finale that will test endurance and strategy. With national support and international participation, the Tour of Luzon 2026 is poised to elevate Philippine cycling on a larger stage.
