Cignal’s resurgence in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference found its driving force in veteran setter Gel Cayuna, who was recognized as the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of March 24 to 28. Her leadership and all-around brilliance powered the Super Spikers back into the semifinals after a two-conference absence.

The four-time PVL Best Setter delivered a performance that went beyond orchestration, combining precision playmaking with timely scoring to lift her team in a high-pressure stretch. Her impact was most evident in Cignal’s breakthrough win that ultimately sealed their Final Four return.

Cayuna delivers on promise with all-around masterclass

Cayuna tallied 34 excellent sets and 11 points in a statement performance, living up to her own declared goal of producing at least 30-plus sets and double-digit scoring. The veteran setter dictated tempo, made smart decisions under pressure, and consistently found ways to maximize her hitters against elite opposition.

Her performance stood out not just statistically but in terms of control and composure, especially against Creamline’s seasoned playmaker Jia Morado-De Guzman. It was a display of maturity and command that anchored Cignal’s offense throughout the crucial stretch of the tournament.

Leadership fuels Cignal’s return to Final Four

Cignal head coach Shaq Delos Santos emphasized the team’s collective commitment, revealing that Cayuna and her teammates set clear performance targets as part of their preparation. The setter’s ability to translate those goals into actual production became a cornerstone of the team’s success.

Beyond numbers, Cayuna’s leadership helped unify the squad, guiding them through pressure moments and sustaining belief against a championship-tested opponent. Her efforts not only earned her the weekly honor but also highlighted her role as the team’s stabilizing force.

Cayuna edged out a competitive field that included teammates and top performers across the league, underscoring the significance of her achievement. The recognition further cements her importance to a Cignal side that continues to build momentum heading into the semifinals.

With additional time to prepare before the Final Four beginning April 11, the Super Spikers will look to build on their progress. At the center of that push is Cayuna, whose form and leadership remain vital to Cignal’s championship aspirations.
