Mark John Lexer Galedo asserted his dominance in the individual time trial (ITT) for Masters at the PhilCycling National Championships 2026. His performance continued his remarkable streak in regional and international competitions.
Galedo, competing in the 40–44 age category, finished the 18-kilometer race-against-the-clock in 22 minutes. He left his rivals behind by significant margins, highlighting his endurance and strategic racing skills.

The event also saw Standard Insurance riders showcase their depth and teamwork in the Women’s Under-23 road race. Angela Joy Marie Bermejo crossed the line first in 2:07:45, followed closely by teammates Angelica Elvira and Rayven Joy Valdez, who finished a wheel and a bike length behind respectively.
Their victory underscored the team’s preparation, coordination, and strength in competitive cycling. It also reflected the growing prominence of women’s cycling in the Philippines.
Honoring a young champion
One of the most poignant moments of the week was the awarding of the Mark Arvin España Armendez Gold Medal to Kim Jerome Duremdes. Duremdes won the Men Junior road race, which included a heartfelt tribute to the late 18-year-old rider, Mark Arvin España Armendez.
Mark tragically died in January from electrocution while fishing with an improvised device in Barangay Palina East, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. The ceremony included a presentation of a certificate to his parents and sister.
“Maraming salamat po sa tribute sa aming anak na talagang dedicated po sa cycling,” said a teary Marlyn Armendez. “Bago po siya namatay ay nag-train na po siya para sa national championships.” The tribute highlighted the family’s resilience and the cycling community’s solidarity.
Masters and women’s races showcase elite talent
Galedo’s victory in the ITT was by 40 seconds over Ronnel Hualda and nearly one and a half minutes ahead of third-placer Jacinto Barbaran Jr. The race was organized by Standard Insurance in partnership with the MVP Sports Foundation.
It provided a platform for national-level competition and highlighted the depth of talent among Philippine cyclists. The event also served to prepare athletes for international competitions.
The Women’s Under-23 road race, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee, Tagaytay City, Excellent Noodles, and 7-Eleven Philippines, confirmed Standard Insurance’s dominance.
The trio’s first-to-third finish illustrated effective teamwork, consistent training, and superior strategy. Their performance positions the team as a leading contender for upcoming competitions in the year ahead.
